What moral obligation does a student have if he or she witnesses cheating?According to the dictionary, morality is defined as the distinction between right and wrong and the rules of proper conduct. Society tells us that cheating is wrong, therefore the moral obligation a student has when he or she witnesses cheating is to tell a person with the authority to discipline that student. Cheating can come in many forms such as copying someone's test answers, to plagiarizing papers. I think that although the student is obligated to tell someone, it really depends on the situation at hand. In many classes, grades are curved by how the test grades are distributed. If someone cheated and got a higher score than they deserved, other students may have to accept lower grades even though they may have studied harder. On the other hand, if the grades weren't based on other student's performances and the student was undergoing special situations, I feel like it may not be that big of a deal. For example, if someone studied hard and the class wasn't critical for his or her major, but needed the class to graduate, then it seems that exceptions can be made by the student witnessing the cheating. Overall it would be the moral obligation of the student to tell someone since it would be too hard to tell what the situation of the student who cheated is in the first place.

When a student witnesses someone cheating is by far their obligation to tell a teacher or who ever is in charge. Cheating is done so much and students dont tell on people when they really should. It all depends on the student, if it's their best friend thats cheating or simply because you dont want to be called a ratter.Ive seen it happen and i really dont pay much attention to it because in the end they are the ones that are going to pay for it not me. As long as im not affected by the cheater its none of my business. I feel that its not only me who feels this way. I do think that copying someone's test to copying someone's essay is different. Taking someone else's work in that way is a problem to me because its affecting me aswell. A multiple choice test is diffrent to plagiarizing because anyone in that test could have the same answer but orginiality and ones own thoughts its to kept to one self.
